Travel
Hamburg has an international airport. There is a tube ("S-Bahn") running to the main station ("Hauptbahnhof") which takes 25 minutes. From Hauptbahnhof it is a 20 minutes walk to the chapel. Of course you can also use the following stops, a bit closer to the chapel.
Instead of flying to Hamburg you might consider Lübeck airport - Ryanair has flights to Lübeck. There is a shuttle bus service available from Lübeck Airport to Hamburg. Tickets for the bus cost approximately €12 and they can be bought directly from the driver. There are trains running between Lübeck and Hamburg every hour and it takes about 45 minutes.
Another airport to consider is Bremen airport. In Bremen there is a vibrant Sacred Harp singing group and you might find someone to take you to Hamburg by car. You can contact them here. There are trains running every hour between Bremen and Hamburg. The easiest and, in nearly every case, least expensive ticket for the train between Bremen and Hamburg, the so-called "Niedersachsen Ticket", is available on-line here. These tickets can also be used to travel on Hamburg's public transport network so you do not need to worry about buying any other ticket on your day of arrival. For those on a tight budget, there are several bus companies operating between Bremen and Hamburg. The bus tickets often cost less than a third of the train ticket price and the journey is only slightly longer. Here is one example but others are available on-line.
- Messberg (tube line "U1")
- Überseequartier (tube line "U4")
- HafenCity Universität (tube line "U4")
- Shanghaiallee (bus line 111)
